Blakey Moor,
Blackburn
An old town centre building completely renovated into a restaurant and bar, with a full kitchen fit out, new toilets and a private dining room, and its heritage kept alive.
The brief
An old building,
a new life
Blakey Moor sits in the heart of Blackburn town centre. The brief was to take a tired old building and renovate it completely, turning it into a restaurant and bar that people would want to spend an evening in.
What made the job special was the building itself. The client wanted its heritage kept alive, not covered up, so the new interior had to work around the features that give the place its character.
Renovate it completely, and keep the heritage of the building alive.
Our approach
New interiors,
old character
We renovated the building from top to bottom, front of house and back of house: new floors, ceilings, lighting, heating and ventilation, decoration, two new bars, a private dining room, all the toilets and a full kitchen fit out. One has a fluted timber front and stone top, the other a front of blue glazed tiles under copper pendants.
Deep green and blue walls, crystal chandeliers and warm lighting give the rooms an evening feel, while the tall sash windows and riveted steel columns are left on show as part of the design. For venues like this we bring together interior fit out and bespoke joinery in one team.
Heritage
Keeping the
building's story
The staircase shows the approach best. The glazed wall tiles with their dark banding, the terrazzo steps with mosaic nosings, the timber handrail and the decorative iron balustrade are all part of the finished building, set against freshly painted walls and a new chandelier.
Upstairs, the riveted steel columns stand in the middle of the dining room and the tall sash windows look out over the town. This is the kind of work our traditional build team does best. Operators with several venues can use the same team for corporate reimaging across their estate.

Beyond the dining room
Kitchen, toilets and
private dining
A restaurant only works if the parts customers never see are done as well as the parts they do. This was a complete fit out, not just the front of house.
Full kitchen fit out
A complete commercial kitchen fit out, with hygienic wall cladding (hygiene boards) on the walls so every surface is smooth, sealed and easy to wash down, as food safety rules expect.
All the toilets
Every toilet in the building fitted out from scratch, finished to the same standard as the rest of the venue and built to cope with a busy night.
Private dining room
A separate private dining room for parties, celebrations and business dinners, finished in the same deep colours with its own chandeliers.
